THE BIGGEST DECISION IN LA CAME FROM THE TRENCHES

Quarterbacks get the headlines. Linemen win the games. Kasi Currie knows that — and so does every college in America.

Currie, a defensive lineman at Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth in the Class of 2027, committed to Texas in June 2026, choosing the Longhorns over Georgia, Ohio State and Oregon after official visits to Texas (June 5-7) and Georgia. That's not a regional recruitment. That's a national recruitment, won by Texas, for an LA kid.

WHY CURRIE IS RATED THIS HIGH

At 6-foot-4 to 6-foot-5 and 310 to 315 pounds, Currie is a 4-star prospect whose ranking varies by service — and is elite on all of them: 247Sports had him around No. 35-37 overall and No. 2 at defensive line, Rivals Industry had him No. 62 overall and No. 5 at defensive line, and ESPN had him No. 3 at defensive tackle in 2027.

He's also a two-way player at Sierra Canyon, playing right tackle on offense as well as defensive tackle. That versatility matters: it shows footwork, stamina and football IQ, not just size.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR CURRIE

Currie will take that two-way toughness to Texas, where the trenches are the program's identity. Before that, he's still anchoring Sierra Canyon's line in LA — the same school that produced Myles Baker, his fellow Class of 2027 commit on this list, in a different direction.

Two Sierra Canyon stars, two Power 4 programs, one LA high school. That's a story in itself.
